Cleanup and Restoration - Sandy

     

       While many all across the East Coast are busy with clean up and restoration from the devastating effects Hurricane Sandy.

       Tonight I as I watch the news reports of flooding, power outages, fires, and lost lives. I began to work on some restoration of my own. Taking an old picture which was creased, wrinkled and fading. Returning it as best I could to it's original state. Fresh and new and yet the same picture I started with!

             We will be uplifting all the people who have been effected by the storms in prayer as the cleanup and recovery process begins. Many times God leads his children through storms in life some worse then others. For some who are going through the same storm it is not as hard and devastating. For  others they are life changing and life shattering. God will bring you through to the other side better and stronger then we were before when we give up our pride and allow God to be God. May this storm bring many people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Co-conspirator and Friend

I this picture along speaks a thousand words...if you know the connection between the people in the picture.

But the person behind the camera speaks so many more. A special uncle, friend, brother and co-conspirator for any kind of prank you ever wanted to play on almost anyone. Even better was playing pranks on him even knowing that harsher repercussions would be following soon after!

I often think back to all the memories I have shared with him - there are to many to name - lately I have been reminded and remembering so many of the things that connected our little group!

I actually had to hear about a metier shower on the news this past saturday-maybe that was your reminder. ;-)

As I remember all the fun times and the serious times. I regret that I don't have very many pictures of them or you...you would think as the photographer I would have tons. The way I figure was... we were having to much fun to worry about stopping to take pictures.

From thick peanut butter milkshakes at the just the right time. To talks over Five guys or the best leftover Chinese ever! From vicious water fights to teaching the proper techniques of swimming or diving. Knowing there was always faithful friend always ready to pray for me, give me a much needed word of encouragement, or just a snap with a  rubber band when least expected.

No matter where I was on my recent trip to Sierra Leone, there were always village children calling "Snap Me!" The entertainment of having a camera here could last for hours if you let it!

One afternoon I was watching the neighbor kids kick around an old beat up soccer ball. I couldn't resist going back inside for my camera and getting these snapshots.

They had tons of fun posing as Professional soccer players!

This last one is my favorite!

Midnight Trek! Our welcome to Sierra Leone! 

There is nothing quite like stepping off the plane into the humid muggy air of West Africa! Even at 11:00pm the sticky and humid night air made us begin to sweat instantly. The rain was a very refreshing and welcome relief as we loaded our bags into the small bus. The sights, sounds, and smells as we made our way to the ferry and across to Freetown brought back memories of my first and only visit to Sierra Leone! The highly anticipated day was finally here. I am back in Africa!

It was all very much the same, familiar and yet new all at once! Nationals ready to help with our bags to receive a tip, cool refreshing rain, sounds of horns and shouts of people passing by, the darkness of the night made more pronounced by the limited electricity throughout the city. Our senses were on high alert as we made the midnight trek to the Orphanage!

The rainy season, which is now coming to a close had washed out allot of the already rut filled road leading to the Lords Mission Church and the Girls dorm at the Wellington Orphanage. As we came to a stop out front of the dorm and unloaded, all children were just as excited by our arrival as we all were. They greeted us with big hugs, exchanged names, and took our bags. Helping us as we climbed the remaining 400 yards of un-drivable road up the hill to the boys housing of the Wellington Orphanage and our home for the next 10 days!!!

Everything is coming together for the Guatemala part of the trip!  


Here is an Update! 


I have begun my first round of Typhoid medication today, as Monica finishes up her last round! Yeah baby! Swallowing a live Virus people...doesn't get any better!! ;-) I will spare you any future details or reactions! 


We will be staying at a bed and breakfast which is owned by one of the Nurses from the Orphanage! They are Christians, have a great price, frequently host short term missions teams, they feed us, and THEY SPEAK ENGLISH!! This is a huge blessing which we have been praying about!

We are also in touch with a missions organization called Porch de Salomon they build homes for the Mayan people, hold outreaches to the communities, and teach Bible studies to the youth! We are hoping to also be able to work with them on some building projects and outreaches while we are there!!

Rose and Monica!

Dear Friends, 

I am asking you to pray for me during the next few months! There are many things that God is doing and allowing me to be apart of! I am very exctied as plans are coming together! 

There is much work and travel coming up...stay posted to. I will post updates, prayer requests, photos, and stories from the journey. 

Please join me in prayer for the upcoming trips as we plan and prepare.

Guatemala - July 11th-18th - the first time return for Monica to the town, area, and orphanages she grew up in. We will be showing Jesus to the Children there now. Handing out tracks where possible, playing soccer, and sharing our story as we go! 

Mexico - July 18th-August 9th -  Missions with Global Encounter. Administering first aid, dispensing antibiotics, treating whatever other medical needs are within the scope of the team’s resources, and providing teaching in dealing with basic medical problems and common health issues. Installing in-home clean water filtration systems to prevent further waterborne illnesses and possibly helping out with some kids’ programs along the way!

Sierra Leone, West Africa - September 23 - October 6th Ministering to the Wellington Orphanage and amputee camps around the wellington area. Small construction projects around the orphanage buildings. Training on teaching and decipling to the orphans to equip them to reach their country for Jesus!

+ The teams as we prepare lessons and activites. 

+ Safe and Healthy travel.

+ Open hearts and open doors.

+ Wisdom and strength for each team member.

Shema - The Book!

Nearly 7 months after our unforgettable trip to the Holy Lands. It's finally finished!! 

I've been working on a photo book from the trip which has taken me a little longer then I planned.

8x10, full color, hardbound, image wrapped, 120 pages filled with photos, Bible verses, and memories! 

I had a good time remembering all the different things from the trip while I worked on each page. I am so glad I was able to meet and travel with this team and share this experience with them!
